Adventurous and unforgettable journey as couple with Best Heritage Tour
By: Ian Andrew Richards
From the moment we set foot on the Nar Phu Valley trek, I knew this was going to be one of our most memorable adventures. The landscapes were wild, the villages were untouched by modern world and the sense of remoteness was unlike anything we had experienced before. Huge thanks to Best Heritage Tour for organizing everything so smoothly and to our guide, Sadan Gurung, whose patience and expertise made all the difference, especially for my wife, who faced some tough challenges along the way.
As we climbed towards Phu village, the steep, rocky trails wore her down. At one point, she felt completely drained, but Sadan stepped in encouraging her, adjusting our pace and even carrying her backpack for a while. When we finally reached Phu, we were welcomed with warm butter tea by a kind local family. That night, we sat by the fire, sharing stories with a group of French trekkers and yak herders who told us about life in the mountains.
Nar village had a different atmosphere than Phu and had a completely different vibe with monks chanting in the small monastery and locals drying barley in the sun. We met an elderly woman who invited us into her home, showing us her centuries-old prayer books and offering us chang (local barley beer). My wife, who had been feeling the altitude, suddenly forgot all about it when she took her first sip. It was stronger than we expected and we all laughed together at her reaction.
The hardest part came at Kang La Pass .The altitude made every step a struggle and at one point, my wife wanted to turn back. But Milan took her hand, guiding her step by step. When we finally reached the top, the Annapurna range view stretched before us truly breathtaking. Reaching top was exhausting but worthy and emotional and we knew this was a moment we’d never forget. The people we met, the challenges we overcame and the breathtaking beauty made it truly unforgettable. Huge thanks to Best Heritage Tour and Sadan Gurung, without their support we couldn’t have done it! Truly a worthy trek.
