The area of Gosaikunda is designated as a religious site. In Hindu mythology, Gosaikunda is described as the abode of Hindu gods Shiva and Gauri. Hindu scriptures Bhagavata Purana, Vishnu Purana, epics Ramayana and Mahabharata mention Samudra Manthan, which is directly related to the origin of Gosaikunda. The waters of Gosaikunda are considered sacred. In contrast, there are places that have special significance during the festivals of Gangadashala and Janai Purnima, when thousands of pilgrims from Nepal and India visit the region. Gosaikunda is said to have been created when Lord Shiva plunged his trishul (sacred trident) into the mountain to get water to cool his burning throat after swallowing poison. If you would like to visit Langtang Valley and Kyangin Gompa by helicopter, book a Langtang helicopter tour package.
